Rhone Varietals in the Willamette Valley
If the Willamette Valley is known for one grape, it is Pinot Noir. However, it turns out that with proper site selection and care in growing, many Rhone varieties are capable of producing world-class fruit. With a similar latitude to the French region, the Willamette Valley provides some of the same Mediterranean climate conditions that made the Rhone a heartland of varieties like Syrah and Viognier.
Originally planted in Syrah and Viognier, our home vineyard nestled in the south hills of the Willamette Valley soon showed an ability to grow excellent Gamay Noir.
Our shallow rocky soils force roots to dig deep into the underlying stone, giving our vines a difficult but rewarding environment that produces some of the best fruit to come through our winery.
Our Winery
When we set out to build our winery, we knew we wanted to keep it small and focus on limited availability wines that represented the very best the region has to offer. Using custom small batch tanks and barrel aging, we keep our footprint small while focusing on healthy fermentation and proper aging of these uniquely quality wines.
Because we didn’t spend allot of money on a fancy winery we were able to focus on things that most small wineries can’t acheive including a state of the art barrel ageing room, custom small batch tanks and a full lab so we can keep an eye on our wines throughout the fermentation and aging process.
